7:35 am - Great lazy guitarist
|

So I've been struggling to find time to play my guitar, I have a 10 month old son and a heavy work schedule running my own business, and no place to leave my gear setup without risk of a certain someone puking on it, or the mrs. tripping on it.
It's been over a year since I actually sat down and played, but I just found my solution, and so far it's getting me paying so sweeet! my fingers are calloused again and my SG is all tuned up, all because I bought "Rocksmith" for my ps3. I was surprised to have a game that actually uses guitar for your controller, and does it good. Of course I've never been a pro, I'm alright, I can sit down with a guitar and have fun, but pulling out my amp, cables, pedals and guitar for a 30-60 minute jam only to have to pack it up after, or have it cut short because a baby needs me, isn't ideal. Unplugging my guitar and putting it in it's case isn't a big deal though.
I've played rockband, and guitar hero, sure great fun, but you're playing pretend, rocksmith you're holding a guitar, hitting notes, chords, bar chords, hammering on etc... actually doing something real.
So far I've been actually playing my guitar, and it's great, so if you have no time and wanna do something with a guitar, I'd recommend it. of course if you're a guitar god well rocksmith does have a wide range of cool amps, pedal and guitars to unlock, but if you're a guitar god you probably own all that anyway.

8:59 pm - String For Strat
|

Hello, people!
Couldn't find any information on fender's website, so I've decided to ask you: can I use .011 strings on my fender strat classic player 60s without the risk of breaking the neck? I also would like to try Heavy Bottom strings (010 - 052). Couldn't find any information on fender's website. What do you think?

Here's a bit of a silly one.
I love the way Jaguars look, and I hate the way they sound. I love the way Les Pauls sound, and I hate the way they look.
Is there a solution, other than trying to be less shallow and buying a Les Paul? :P I know Jaguar HHes exist, but I've watched a few videos of them being played on YT and I'm really not impressed: even with humbuckers and with the HPF turned off they still have that thin Jag twangy feebleness.
Would sticking a higher output pup like a Bare Knuckle Warpig or something in the bridge beef them up, or is there more to the sound than that?

Hello! I'm selling my Washburn HB-30 cherry red hollowbody electric guitar for $500 (list price: $600). There are four days left for it on ebay, but if you catch this after the auction has ended message me. :)
This guitar has never been used. I used to play guitar for many years, and this is one of the guitars that made its way into my home without ever being played. Now it needs a good home. Hopefully one where it will actually be played and enjoyed.
This was x-posted, so I apologize if you see this more than once.

I've been looking into MIDI guitar recently, and I can't for the life of me find a guitar interface that's still being manufactured: the Axon AX-50 and AX-100 and the Roland GI-20 are all discontinued and none of them appear very often on eBay.
Ideally I'd like something fairly basic: I don't need any built-in sounds, just a means of getting MIDI data from the guitar to the computer fast and accurately. I'm guessing a regular MIDI interface (which I own already) won't work.
Anything? :/

7:20 pm - Marshall MG Series 50DFX Amplifier
|

Hi,
I have a Marshall MG Series 50DFX amplifier, which isn't that great to be honest. It's ok for home/band practice but that's about it... Anyway, the master volume pot is very crackly and when turned the volume jumps up and down very rapidly. When left alone afterwards the volume is normally very quiet, which means I have to turn it some more to find a volume which is usable.
After searching around, I have managed to find out that this is probably due to some gunk in the pots. I have bought myself some contact cleaner but am unsure as to how I should go about this. At the risk of sounding very naive here... Do I literally just yank off the knobs and give what's underneath a spray..? Or am I going to have to take apart my amp to get round the back of the pots? I have never done this before and, although the amp is nothing special, I don't want to fuck it up unnecessarily. Has anyone got any ideas or advice?
Also, I am looking to get another amp, a valve if possible. I haven't got a great deal of cash available, £500 at a push. Has anyone got any suggestions/recommendations that I could look into? I play mainly alt-rock type stuff.
Thanks, Matt.

Looking to buy an amp head for a 4x12 speaker cab. I like tone of Dave Gilmour, Warren Haynes, Allmans, etc. Have been checking out Bogner Shiva, Egnator Renegade, Rivera Knucklehead, to name a few. I'm seriously considering Bogner Shiva. Any experience with this head or suggestions appreciated.

11:30 pm - Acoustic guitar humidifiers
|

darealmillah

Anyone have any extensive experience with humidifiers for an acoustic guitar. I've had a Lifegard one that fits in the sound hole for several years, but now I know they have a lot of different kinds out now. Some with the jelly stuff that you refill with a syringe, some that just go in the case and not the guitar, small ones that just sit above the guitar so you don't risk damaging your instrument when putting them in.
Just curious what's the best kind to use and why? Or is there really not much of a difference?

9:46 am - Dream Guitar
|

jkndrkn

Literally.
I dreamt of the following instrument:
Five courses of strings, tuned in fifths (I think). The lowest two courses had three strings, with two unison strings and one octave strings. The other three courses are just octave strings. I suspect that the instrument was informed by both the Oud and the Bassimer. I remember playing the top two strings barred in fifths or fourths and the sound had the full chiming sound of a twelve-string guitar with some of the warm buzz of the Oud.
Has anyone else had any weird instrument dreams?
